kasbah-du-toubkal

kasbah-du-toubkal (1)

In the heart of Toubkal National Park, in true Berber country, there exists a sublime haven of peace, nestling in the imposing mountain scenery. Located in a stunning natural environment, Kasbah du Toubkal is truly unique. Formerly the summer house of a feudal caïd (local baron), it has been restored using traditional Berber techniques by the inhabitants of the surrounding villages as is now Morocco’s premier mountain retreat.

Price Per Person: 1300DH/130 and up (B&B)

History: Began in 1982, open in it’s current state since 1995. Built by Caid Said SOUKTANI in the 40’s, part of the Glaoui ’empire’. Fell into disrepair after he was ousted post the French withdrawal in ’56. It was used as storage by local population for straw and animals for many years. In 1994 it was bought by Mike, and slowly restored and converted. Initially it was used for school groups, however, it has now become the default deluxe option for Imlil, with many tourists being bussed up from luxury hotels in Marrakech for a ‘Berber’ experience.
